A Darkroom is a completely light-tigh room where personal exposure will process latend image, load and unload x-ray films.
Location
Depending on the department design, it should be centrally sited and serviced by hatch from neighboring conventional or x-ray room
Darkroom should be
• Excluded from wet (damp) or hot areas
• Have water and power supply
• Well Ventilation
Types of darkroom entrance
Typically darkroom requires frequent in and out without admitting white light, special design entrance are needed.
1 Single door
2 Double door
3 Labyrinth door
4 Rotating/Revolving door system
Single door: - precautions need to be taken to prevent light from entering while processing, when more than 1 person is using the room and in cases of accident (you need to over ride the interlock).
Double door: - each door has to be hard in structure and well fitted (to exclude all light when closed). It can be economical and term of space (when the vestibule is small or when door nearest to the darkroom is a sliding door). Interlock can be use as well.
Labyrinth door: - consist of || passages and facing wall, it’s most effective if the interior of the passage, the central baffle and facing portions are painted black.
Rotating/Revolving door system: - in one of the design there is a metal cylinder with an opening in its side for entry/exist. In other to gain entry – step in to the cylinder and rotate manually until the opening is adjacent to the darkroom.
Fire safety: alternate exist doors should be provided and left unobstructed always.
